We Played a Game of Screen Drafts to determine the best School related Horror FIlms

Image
My wife V chose this topic (with these restrictions: must have several scenes in school, must be about school in some way, no specialty schools allowed) and we made a top thirteen list (instead of the usual top 18) because 3 players took part (V, me and our friend Scott). Nick, who normally plays and will be back playing for the next game (ranking all The Crow and Jason films), was kind enough to provide trivia and play host for this game. He opened with a delightful intro that ended this way: "Good or bad, anyone who has set foot in a public high school can relate to many of the things the protagonists are going through. How many of us would have rather run from Ghostface than set foot in a gym class? Or hoped for death rather than taking an un-studied for biology test? Growing up is scary enough. Adding something supernatural to the mix just makes it a whole lot worse. Now, teacher leave those kids alone!!” Trivia questions related to Idle Hands, It Follows, Jennifer's Body,...

We Played a Game of Screen Drafts to Determine the 16 Best Horror Films

Image
Screen Drafts is a game based on a popular podcast where players (in this case Scott, Nick, Vanessa and I) work towards making a hopefully collaborative film list based on a given topic. The game generally contains vetoes and veto overrides. The amount of those is determined by trivia (provided by our friend Rene) as well as the spots each player has on this list. A more detailed examination of the game can be found in previous write-ups on this blog. I am doing a short version of the set up  here because no vetoes or overrides were deployed just positive vibes. This was Scott's turn to pick a topic, and he asked each of us to come up with a top 16 horror film list in no particular order. Once the lists were finished, we could not play our own and were sort of proxy for another player. It was nice seeing what everyone's favorites were.  Scott had my list. Vanessa had Nick's. I had Vanessa's and Nick had Scott's. We each had 4 picks to place on a list of 16.  In addi...

We played a game of screen drafts to determine the best animal attack films

We (Nick, Scott, my wife Vanessa and I) played this game at Red Garter Saloon before going off to see Waxwork on the big screen. The drinks were plentiful. The jukebox was playing the back catalog of Eddie Murphy thanks to me. I never looked behind me but I am pretty sure the crowd was the to type party all the time. And we played a game based on the podcast Screen Drafts to determine the best animal attack films while also using vetoes and veto overrides when necessary. Pick placement and amount of vetoes and overrides is decided by trivia. This trivia was provided by our friend Rene who also joined us for the first time. The game probably went off the rails more than usual. But Nick left with a carryover veto, Scott left with a carry over override and V and I both left with one of each. 18. 47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019) Nick chose this one despite finding the characters awful. He liked the altar room and the sequence with the boat. He thought I might veto with it this low because I ...

Ray Bradbury/Robert Bloch Film Game

Four of us (Nick, Scott, my wife Vanessa and I) played a game based on the podcast Screen Drafts. This is a (in this case) top 16 list making game where players get four picks each and work towards making a best of list on a given topic. Each player (depending on their pick placement as decided by trivia) has a certain number of vetoes and veto overrides. Vetoes keep things off the list at the placement where they are vetoed, but once vetoed they can be overriden (by a player other than the one who played it) or potentially played higher. We had Nick's friend Jesse join us as an observer. She was lovely and may be utilized as a host should she join us again. I suspect she influenced the game with her presence because leading up to the game I was told by the players this will be a copacetic game because most in contention films were on the same level, but once we started, the vetoes and overrides were thrown. Nick and Scott  left with overrides that carried over. V and I had a ...
